Blog# 1

 Hello,

My name is Jon and I am a Junior at FSU where I am studying Interdisciplinary Social Science. My main goal is to become a teacher and work at a local High School where I am also an Assistant Wrestling Coach. Until I am done with school, I work as a hard wood floor installer. I like the work that I do now and it is a very unique job that I enjoy. Learning how to refinish hardwood flooring and to be able to refinish my own floors would save me a lot of money if I ever had to redo them. ( I only have carpet and tile....But if I did have hardwood floors, I would do them :P ).

I have had very little experience in technology in an educational setting. I have substituted at the high school that I will eventually be teaching at, but as a sub, I don't even have a personal computer unless I brought my own laptop with me from home. I have seen the new tech that they have at the school being used. Tech such as smart boards that are linked to the projectors and things like that.

My own PLN, would consists of many different people. I do a lot of different things, so I would have multiple PLN. For instance, I am a coach. So my network would mainly consists of other coaches. Both locally and coaches from different teams. Also I would use YouTube as a source of watching training videos and high level coaches giving tips on how to coach better to get the best results out of the wrestlers. Another PLN that I would have would be through my church. I am involved with the youth program, and so my network would consists of the other leaders within the church, the deacons, other youth leaders in the area, and even the parents of the youth. All working together to provide the best experience for the kids as well as staying connected to them.

  2. Hi Jon!

I think it very cool that you are a hardwood floor installer. That is an interesting talent and skillset to possess. I too have various leaders in my church community who I look up to for sound advice and information. I think that it is important to have a wide ranging PLN so that way we can be very diverse in all of our thought processes. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hi Jon!
I think it is wonderful that you want to teach and coach! Those are the people that truly make a difference in student's lives. My PLN also involves my church setting. I have several friends and mentors through my church and am very involved myself. This is a great addition to any PLN, for these are the people that help you grow in different virtues.

  4. Hello Jon!
I think you are off to a great start in your path to becoming a teacher at your local high school, being a assistant coach for wrestling is a great way to get connected into the school system. I am involved in my church as well, though I do not have any experience with the technology aspects of it; however, there are many people I can learn from!

  5. Hey Jon, way to be handy with floor installation! I think it’s very cool that you want to teach, and it’s great that you already have a connection. Although I didn’t include it in my own post, I have deep connections with my old youth group and current church. It’s a great resource. Good luck!
